FAQs:

What is A Code of Ethics for Curators?

The Code of Ethics provides professional guidelines for ethical conduct for the benefit of museums in general and specifically curators engaged in the museum field.   The Code of Ethics describes the fundamental principles and core beliefs of curatorial work.

Why is the Code of Ethics being reviewed?

Curcom leadership feels strongly that this is a “core” document for our profession.  The Code of Ethics must consider contemporary concerns in the field. The last revision occurred in 1996 – twelve years ago, and it was clearly time for a review.

Why should I participate in the review?

Your insights can ensure this document represents the interests and concerns of the entire profession.

We believe this is an essential document that will enable curators to provide leadership and expertise in a variety of areas within their museum and the larger community of museums.
